Welcome to our practice! I’m Melissa Cilliers, a Clinical Psychologist committed to providing compassionate and effective care tailored to the unique needs of each client.
My journey into psychology began with a passion for helping others, which I cultivated through volunteering at children’s homes and psychosocial rehabilitation centres. I hold a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Johannesburg, where I gained extensive experience in psychiatric and primary hospital settings.
Throughout my career, I have worked in various settings, including outpatient clinics, psychiatric hospitals, and trauma units. My expertise includes treating acute psychiatric illnesses, providing short-term therapy, and working with individuals across all ages and backgrounds. I also specialize in conducting medico-legal assessments for psycho-legal assessments for custody hearings.
My professional experience includes working in the Trauma ICU and Burns ICU at Netcare Milpark Hospital and conducting transplant-related psychological assessments at WITS Donald Gordon Academic Hospital. I am currently the resident clinical psychologist at the Alberton Netcare Pediatric ICU and Pediatric Ward and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team in the Pediatric Oncology Department.
I have been in private practice since 2018, where I focus on the assessment and treatment of psychopathologies. Based at Life Brackenview Hospital, I offer support to both inpatients and outpatients, drawing on an integrative therapeutic approach to meet each client’s unique needs.
Whether I’m working with children, adolescents, or adults, my mission is to provide a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space for healing and growth. Thank you for considering me as part of your journey toward mental well-being.
I am a dedicated Clinical Psychologist with extensive experience providing evidence-based treatment to children, adolescents, and adults. My passion for psychology stems from my upbringing in Tjatane, Sekhukhune, Limpopo, where I witnessed the scarcity of mental health resources. This inspired my commitment to offering compassionate, tailored care that meets each individual’s unique needs.
My expertise includes short- and long-term psychotherapy for individuals, couples, families, and groups, addressing challenges such as developmental difficulties, trauma, bereavement, depression, anxiety, abuse, family and relationship conflicts, substance-related issues, occupational stress, and acute psychiatric illnesses. I specialize in play therapy for children and conduct comprehensive psychological and psychiatric assessments for diagnostic and treatment purposes.
Professionally, I have worked in outpatient and inpatient settings, including Tara H. Moross Psychiatric Hospital, where I provided care for individuals with acute psychiatric conditions, including eating disorders and adolescent mental health concerns. At Sterkfontein Psychiatric Hospital, I gained forensic experience, supporting state forensic patients with complex psychiatric needs.
I am committed to fostering emotional and psychological well-being through a compassionate, evidence-based approach. My goal is to create a safe, non-judgmental space where clients can heal, grow, and achieve their personal goals.
